👮 A Message from Your Local Officer – Incident on Tangier Road👮

Good Evening Everyone, 

Your local officer, PC 28670 Jamie Christian here.

So this wasn’t the update that I was planning on writing to you all this evening. That said, I am sure that many of you are aware that police have been dealing with an incident on Tangier Road this afternoon. While there is still a live investigation ongoing, I am limited to the information that I can share with you all at this stage. 

That said, I can confirm that we were called at 3.35pm, to a report of a stabbing in Tangier Road. One man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

A 39-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A 44-year-old woman from Portsmouth has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police remain in the area so please speak to officers to share any concerns that you may have.  

I know that this incident will have shocked many of you as this is not what we want or expect to happen in Baffins. At this stage, I do not believe there to be any wider threat to the public.

My thanks to those of you that spoke to my colleagues and I in relation to CCTV in the area. Your help was, as always, very much appreciated. In case we missed you, if you reside on Tangier Road between Chesterfield Road and Dover Road please can I ask that you check your CCTV/Doorbell cameras between 3:25pm – 3:40pm. If you have any footage that you think will assist us, please can you:

Equally, if you witnessed what happened and did not provide your details to police, please get in touch the same way. 

I also understand that the road closures caused traffic issues in and around the area for many of you. Unfortunately, I had to do this in order to create a safe space for police and the other emergency services to work in. I understand how frustrating these road closures can be however, you have my thanks for finding alternative routes and giving us the space we needed. 

You may have also seen a variety of police officers from various strands of policing on the scene. We were supported by our colleagues from the armed response unit and from the dog unit. Please do not be alarmed by this – it’s a standard response to incidents of this nature. These officers are highly skilled and have a number of tactical options available to them to ensure a safe and swift conclusion for everyone involved.

I have already spoken with Cllr Kadir in relation to this matter and I will be speaking with other agencies, both this evening and over the coming days, in relation to this incident.
